Pidgeon / Bolzano Process

The Magnetherm process developed by Pechiney-Ugine-Kuhlman in 1963 in France applies an electric furnace with liquid slag. Aluminia or bauxite is added to the charge and acts as a catalyst to keep the calcium silicate slag molten so that it may be tapped in a liquid state. The process is currently used in France, the United States, Japan and Yugoslavia.
